De hectiek van december 2014 zette zich in januari 2015 voort. Het is algemeen bekend dat ik zeer laagdrempelig bereikbaar ben en vanuit het binnen- en buitenland deed men een beroep op mij. Ook de organisatie van de Wereldkampioenschappen.
Als je echter zelf werk te doen hebt én kweker én tentoonsteller bent (en dan heb ik het nog niet over een privéleven), kan dat problemen opleveren. Dat deed het dus ook. De hoeveelheid telefoontjes en mails is niet te tellen, steeds moest er wat geregeld, opgelost of gecoördineerd worden. Een middag had ik afgeblokt om mijn vogels voor de WK te kuisen. Ik had op die middag de tweede vogel (van de honderd) in mijn hand toen de telefoon ging. De Turkse delegatie met vogels stond op Schiphol en mochten er niet in. “Er staat een mijnheer met bijna 500 vogels aan de grens. Met papieren die alleen voor kanaries zijn maar er zitten vele andere soorten in het transport waarvan de papieren niet juist zijn”.
Vanaf dat moment ging ik van de ene telefoon naar de andere, zond mails, sprak met de Nederlandse Voedsel- en Warenautoriteit (VWA)- medewerker op Schiphol, had contact met het Ministerie van Economische Zaken en Landbouw, steeds weer terug koppelend met de organisatie in Rosmalen en de Turkse delegatie op Schiphol.
Hoe kon dit zo misgaan? Alles hadden wij tevoren goed besproken met de autoriteiten in Nederland, met de COM en met de Turkse bestuurders, juist om dit te voorkomen. “Kom niet met het vliegtuig; alleen als je 93 mensen in het vliegtuig hebt die ieder vijf vogels meenemen. Kom niet vanuit Istanbul. Ga liever met een auto. Zorg dat je de juiste papieren bij je hebt. Probeer de problemen van Turkije van de afgelopen vijf jaar te voorkomen.
NU heerst er in Europa vogelgriep en men zal niet clement zijn.” Enzovoorts enzovoorts.
Om clementie hoefde ik niet te vragen, regels zijn regels. Men kon na vier uur onderhandelen weer vertrekken met een grote boete op zak. Tja als je dan in Turkije terug komt en je moet de liefhebbers uitleggen wat er gebeurd is, dan is het wel heel simpel om te zeggen, dat je een stugge dierenarts aan de grens hebt gehad en dat Constant van Santen NIETS heeft gedaan om de Turkse vogels binnen te krijgen (met hun protest op sociale media en op de show tot gevolg). En daarom vertel je ook, dat je NIET op Constant op het congres gaat stemmen. Er was op dat congres één land/stem te weinig die voor mij stemde. Nu, dan hebben ze hun zin.
Ik ook, want ik ben nu vrij man en hoef niet meer mijn liefhebberij achter te stellen voor mensen die niet eerlijk zijn en vooral liegen om hun eigen positie te behouden.
January 2015, the Turkish protest
The hectic of December 2014 continued in January 2015. It is well known that people can contact me low-profile and they did that home and abroad. Such as the Organisation of the Worldshow.
However, with a job and as a breeder and exhibitor (I don’t talk about my family live), it can give a lot of problems, and it did. The amount of telephone calls and e-mails… all the time something needed to be arranged, solved, or coordinated. One afternoon was blocked for controlling my show birds. That afternoon I had the second bird in my hand (out of hundred), when the telephone rang: border-security.
The Turkish delegation arrived at Schiphol-airport and their access was denied. “There is here a gentleman with 500 birds at the border. With papers only for canaries but there are several other species in the transport and the documents are no good”.
From that moment on the phone didn’t stop, e-mails were send, I spoke with the Dutch Authorities (VWA) employee at the Airport, had contact with the Dutch Ministery of Economic Affairs and Agriculture, always connected with the organization in Rosmalen and the Turkish delegation at the Airport.
How this could went so wrong? Everything was well discussed with the Dutch Authorities, with the COM and the Turkish delegation, just to prevent this issue. “Don’t come alone if you travel by plane, but 93 persons can bring 5 birds each (European law). Don’t take the plane from Istanbul, or travel by car. Be sure that you have the correct documents with you. Try to prevent the problems of Turkey by the last 5 years. At this moment the bird influenza is active in Europe”, etcetera etcetera
It was no use to ask for leniency, rules are rules, law is law. After four hours of negotiation they could leave with a hefty fine. Well, after arriving in Turkey, you must explain this all to the breeders; it’s very easy (low/out of order) to say that you’ve met a stiff vet at the border and that Constant van Santen had done NOTHING to get the Turkish birds into the country (with their protest at the social media and at the show). And for that reason you also speak around that you will NOT vote for Constant van Santen at the Congress. There was one vote/country too short for my re-election. Well, they have got it how the wanted.
I’m pleased too, because I’m free again and don’t put my hobby into the background for people who are not being fare and above all lie to keep their own position.
